First, a reassuring fact

Finding a nodule does not mean you have cancer.

Thyroid nodules are common. Many are benign and can be monitored. The right next step depends on the ultrasound appearance, size, symptoms and, when advised, a needle biopsy.

A careful assessment helps avoid both unnecessary worry and missed follow-up.
What could a thyroid lump be?
01

Benign nodule or cyst

Often watched over time. Treatment may be considered if it grows, causes pressure symptoms, or has other reasons for intervention.

02

Indeterminate biopsy result

Sometimes a sample cannot clearly classify a nodule. Your clinician may recommend repeat sampling, additional review, monitoring, or surgery based on the full picture.

03

Thyroid cancer

If cancer is suspected or confirmed, the treatment plan is tailored to the cancer type, extent, and your individual needs.

A clear path, together

From report to next step.

We review your results with you and explain the options before recommending a plan.

STEP 01

Listen & examine

Discuss the lump, symptoms, health history and any voice, swallowing or breathing concerns.

STEP 02

Review your tests

Thyroid ultrasound and blood tests help assess the nodule and thyroid function. A fine needle aspiration (FNA) may be advised for some nodules.

STEP 03

Understand the options

Depending on the findings, options may include observation, further testing, or surgery. Not every nodule needs an operation.

STEP 04

Plan care & follow-up

If surgery is appropriate, discuss the operation, recovery and follow-up with your surgeon and care team.

Bring your ultrasound, biopsy and blood test reports if available. You can still book a discussion if you are waiting for results.

Surgical options

More than one way to reach the thyroid.

When surgery is recommended, the approach is chosen around what is safest and most appropriate for your case.

A tailored conversation about access

Open, endoscopic or robotic-assisted approaches.

Conventional thyroid surgery uses a small incision in the lower neck and remains the right approach for many patients. For carefully selected cases, endoscopic or robotic techniques can approach the thyroid through incisions away from the neck, aiming to avoid a visible neck scar.

Scarless access options

Some techniques use hidden or remote-access incisions. They are not suitable for every nodule or cancer.

◇

Reconstruction & recovery

Your team can discuss incision care, recovery expectations and options to support the best possible cosmetic outcome.

Is a scarless approach right for me? Eligibility depends on factors such as nodule size and location, thyroid disease, cancer extent, anatomy, prior treatment and surgeon assessment. A visible neck scar cannot be avoided in every case, and safety guides the recommendation.

Common questions

A few answers before you book.

Have a question about your report? Bring it to your consultation.

Ask our team
Do all thyroid nodules need surgery?

No. Many benign nodules can be monitored. Surgery may be considered for suspicious or cancerous findings, pressure symptoms, growth, overactive nodules, or other individual reasons.

Can blood tests tell if a thyroid nodule is cancer?

Thyroid blood tests help assess how the gland is functioning, but they cannot by themselves determine whether a nodule is cancerous. Ultrasound and sometimes an ultrasound-guided FNA are used to assess the nodule.

What does “scarless thyroid surgery” mean?

It usually refers to selected endoscopic or robotic-assisted techniques that reach the thyroid through incisions away from the neck, such as inside the mouth or in other concealed locations. These approaches avoid a visible neck incision but still involve incisions elsewhere and may carry additional risks.

Can every patient have robotic or endoscopic surgery?

No. Suitability depends on the diagnosis, nodule or tumor features, anatomy, previous treatment and the surgeon’s assessment. The approach that best protects your health may be conventional surgery.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Bring your ultrasound report and images, FNA/biopsy report, thyroid blood tests, medication list and any previous treatment records you have.
